Over the ensuing decades\, fascination with Eleanor and Father McKenzie has only grown. Who were they? Why were they lonely? \nThis year\, Interesting Theatre will provide our answers with Where They Come From: A Meditation on Eleanor Rigby\, written and directed by Tim Higgins. \nAct One will feature the Haskins Street Band as they explore the musical influences that informed the Fab Four’s remarkable creativity and led them to Eleanor. \nIn Act Two\, the company of Interesting Theatre tackles the questions more directly. The story is set in Winnipeg\, in the winter of 1920. Sometimes\, icebergs that look far away from each other on the surface can bump into each other under the water – sometimes gently\, sometimes causing damage. \nFor our coffee and chai conversation this month\, we are going to explore the cultural iceberg that we call the clergy collar.  On the surface\, it might seem like a small thing\, a symbol of office that some clergy intentionally wear and others do not.  Some church members and people in the general public are comforted by it\, others are puzzled by it\, others are traumatized by it.  Some clergy are comfortable wearing it\, and others are not.  All of our responses to this visible symbol of office are informed by our values\, our histories\, our stories\, our power in society – those often unseen things that exist beneath the water lines of our lives.  Let’s get together for meaningful conversation\, and explore who we are as an intercultural community\, through the lens of the cultural iceberg we call the clergy collar. Here’s one suggested reading\, which may reflect the views of many in the church. And we’ll explore more views together.

DESCRIPTION:We have shot a new play\, For Those in Peril on the Sea will be broadcasting it on Zoom. \nThese stories follow the adventures of that intrepid couple\, Elleston and Pamela Liddell.   After the events of All Made of Sighs and Tears\, (available on Young United’s YouTube channel) the Liddells decide that a relaxing cruise on Lake Winnipeg is just what they need.   It’s August\, 1908.   The weather is beautiful\, the scenery stunning\, their shipmates congenial and  interesting…   But then\, as Elleston has often remarked:  where Liddell goes\, adventure follows! \nShowtimes will be Friday\, June 25th at 7:30 PM and Sunday\, June 27th at 2:30PM.  For those of you who are Zoom savvy\, I’ll be opening the waiting room one half hour early to give theatre-goers the ‘lobby’ experience.  The show is 1 hour 20 minutes with a brief intermission.  When you’re ready to attend\, just click on the link of which ever day you prefer. \nAdmission will be free but please include a reminder that a donation to Young will be greatly appreciated.   This is a fund-raiser\, after all!  Tax receipts are available for gifts over $10. SUMMARY:Trek to Turkey refugee support
DESCRIPTION:The Young Adults and Youth (YAAY) Committee is inviting you to join us in running or walking to raise money to bring a family of refugees to Winnipeg. If not registering as a walker/runner\, please consider donating in support of one of our participants. \nUsing an app called Pacer\, all participants will collectively run or walk a total of 900km between June 14th and June 19th. While Turkey is closer to 9\,000km from Winnipeg\, we decided that one-tenth of that would be a more doable goal. All participants who raise or donate at least $20 will be eligible to win prizes for three different categories. All participants will also receive a gift of a plant for their participation. \nThis is one of the fundraisers being put on by the YAAY Committee with support from Young United Church to bring a family of refugees to Winnipeg from Turkey to join their daughter who is already living here. We need to raise a total of $8000\, of which we have already raised $2500. DESCRIPTION:All the people of the Regional Council and beyond are invited to gather Under the Same Rainbow in worship to celebrate Prairie to Pine becoming an Affirming ministry. Join us with your rainbows\, noisemakers\, and communion elements.\n\nAn Affirming ministry is a ministry formally designated as fully including and celebrating Two Spirit\, trans\, non-binary\, intersex\, bisexual\, asexual\, lesbian\, and gay people\, within the Affirm United/ S’affirmer Ensemble movement in the United Church of Canada. Our service will be a public worship. All welcome. \n\n\nWe will gather around an open table in all of our individuality\, our many colours\, languages\, abilities\, ages\, gender identities and expressions\, sexualities\, and more\, to share communion and celebrate Jesus’ love for us all. Together we will commit to the next stage of our Affirming journey together. \n\nThis celebration builds on the past and present work of many\, including the Affirming presbyteries within the Affirming Conference of Manitoba and NW Ontario\, and the many Affirming ministries and people within our Regional Council. More details and information on the link will be sent out soon. For now\, please hold the date and discuss in your community of faith whether you wish to bring your entire worshipping community to this service. This Affirming celebration will be part of Prairie to Pine’s annual meeting\, May 28-30\, and all are welcome.
